Kirsten Kuhn is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner who has worked in the fields of psychiatric and emergency medicine for over fifteen years. A Master of Science in Nursing graduate of Walden University, Kirsten’s many years of nursing experience have taught her that optimal mental wellness is best achieved when a partnership exists between the client and provider. She welcomes clients of all ages (children, adults, older adults) to partner with her at Mind Bloom La Jolla for their psychotherapy, psychiatric medication management, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) needs.

Special populations of interest are ADHD, mood disorders (major depressive disorder, bipolar disorders), anxiety disorders, PTSD, psychotic disorders (schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia), and sleep disorders. Her preferred method of providing psychotherapy (individual, family, and groups) is a blend of humanistic approach with the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). In 2019, Kirsten completed a six-month intensive psychotherapy course working with military veterans with PTSD and their families. She anticipates that this training will not only be useful to her clients who are veterans, but also to healthcare workers serving on the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As a provider, Kirsten takes a holistic approach to mental health care and aims to use the least amount of medication possible. She sees great value in helping her clients access alternative treatments (development of executive functioning skills, focusing on nutrition and exercise, promoting talk therapy, acupuncture and energy healing, etc.) that are often overlooked by conventional psychiatric providers.
